“‘For I,’ says the Lord, ‘will be a wall of fire all around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.’” (Zechariah 2:5)
See, dear one — when you want to give up on yourself, when you feel like everyone else has give up on you as well. The Lord will never give up on you. He hears the silent crying; He feels the dull ache in your soul. He sees the hopes shattering and wounding your heart again and again. He is here in your loneliness, in the hurt and the shame — and He says, “I will not leave you. I am with you, and I am within you. I will shine My glory within you, and I will protect you from the harm that threatens to destroy you. You are Mine, and you will be protected, safe in My arms.”
No matter how hard you are trying to build those walls around your heart, to protect yourself from all this pain and sorrow and hopelessness that is drowning you. We are like Jerusalem — a city without walls, without ways to defend ourselves in this modern warfare.
“He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.” (Psalm 62:6-7)
There is no escaping the brokenness of this fallen world — but we have a Savior who came for us who are without defenses, for us stripped bare and vulnerable. He is our refuge; He will be our defense. We do not need to face this day, this life alone. The Lord will fight for us, and He will be our defense and safe place.
So hear Him now, beloved. You are the apple of His eyes. You are so precious to Him, honored and loved by Him. He has come — Emmanuel, God with us. He has come, to dwell in our midst. He has taken your sin and your shame, to now dwell with you and to love you and to keep you.
“But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine. Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honored, and I have loved you.” (Isaiah 43:1,4)
