Advent.

Beloved, did you notice that? Advent is here.

Now we stumble into this season of waiting, of looking to the coming of Christ with a trusting heart and an expectant faith. We wait for our Savior, to come and flood the world with His perfect light. We wait for this reminder, for this sign of the end of our exile.

We no longer wander lost; we no longer wander purposeless or without hope.

We wait, knowing that He has come to make us new. We wait, knowing that in His brokenness we have been made whole. We wait, knowing that He is the God With Us and we will never walk alone. We wait, knowing that His righteousness has clothed us and hope is woven into our story, into our soul. And as we wait for the coming of the Christ through this Advent season?

We will see that we have come home as well.

This is what the Lord says:
“At just the right time, I will respond to You.
On the day of salvation I will help You.
I will protect You and give You to the people
    as my covenant with them.
Through You I will reestablish the land of Israel
and assign it to its own people again.
I will say to the prisoners, ‘Come out in freedom,’
and to those in darkness, ‘Come into the light.’
They will be my sheep, grazing in green pastures
and on hills that were previously bare.
They will neither hunger nor thirst.
The searing sun will not reach them anymore.
For the Lord in His mercy will lead them;
He will lead them beside cool waters.” (Isaiah 49:8-10 NLT)

This year, I have decided to do just this: to walk through the advent with an expectant heart, knowing that He will come, that He has come — Emmanuel, God with us. To make time every morning for God to work in this stump of a heart that is mine, believing that this season of waiting is also a season of miracles — that in our active waiting, our hearts miraculously turned to Him and we our made new.

So I am asking you, my friend, to join me, to walk every step through this Advent season together, with our eyes focused on our Savior and with our hearts ready to be filled with the bright glory of His presence.
