walking through the advent together: day 2

On Mondays during this Advent season, we will focus on praying and setting our hearts right for the week.

There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse,
And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.
The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The Spirit of counsel and might,
The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

“And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse,
Who shall stand as a banner to the people;
For the Gentiles shall seek Him,
And His resting place shall be glorious.” (Isaiah 11:1-2, 10)

Lord Jesus, we come before you, our hearts echoing empty and our souls aching. We stumble into this season of waiting with our hearts heavy and in desperate need for more of You. More often than not, these days, these circumstances do not make sense and we are weary, trying so hard to see the glistening glimpses of hope in our days.

Lord Jesus, You were there before the beginning and You were there in the beginning. You have been there for every single one of our breaths, for all the great and the small things. We pray, Lord, would You help us now, to walk through the story of love and redemption with our eyes open and with our hearts receiving. You have made a way for us, to that place of glory and of grace.

Lord, break our hearts and strip us of our selfishness, all the ways we put ourselves before others. Lord Jesus, You portrayed selflessness to us when You came down from heaven as a helpless babe, to suffer and to save. We will never understand why the King of Glory would come down, for us – to walk that broken road to carry the sins of ours on the cross. Yet, Lord, it is never about whether we understand. It is always about whether we believe and this Christmas, we choose to believe. Help us, God, to rid us of our selfish needs and motives; and instead, let Your love overflow in us so that we might serve with a love growing like that branch.

    Beautiful, heartfelt prayer, Ronja. So much of what you said could have come out of my own heart. Especially the part about understanding vs. belief. I liked that. I try so hard to understand so many things. But in the end, it’s not about my ability to *get it* – it’s all about God’s ability to sustain me even when, especially when, things don’t make sense!

    GOD BLESS!

    1. Thank you so much, Sharon! To be honest, most days I’m quite relieved that I don’t need to understand everything because these days, few things make sense. But He takes care of us, in every single moment — and we only need to choose to believe that He will. :) Thank you for your visit, Sharon! God bless!
